Bio

Sage Kime is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Urban Planning and Public Policy at the University of California, Irvine. Her research explores the intersection of energy justice, decarbonization, and collaborative governance, with a focus on equitable energy transitions. For her dissertation, she plans to evaluate how participatory planning in energy development projects can serve as a tool for achieving just outcomes. Sage holds a master’s degree from the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at UC Santa Barbara (2022) and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara (2018). Her master’s research examined the metrics and methods used to assess equity in low-carbon energy transitions, combining her interests in energy and environmental justice. Following her graduate studies, she worked as a staff research associate investigating how fossil fuel-dependent communities perceive and respond to energy transitions. Through her research, Sage aims to bridge the gap between technical solutions and community needs, leveraging collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to advance just and sustainable transitions.
